Snow!! In San Francisco?? In September?!?!

Icer Air 2005

UPDATE: As always, one of the best ways to see photos from the event is through Flickr’s tags and “most interesting” features. Here’s a link.

I drove over to Pacific Heights today and watched Icer Air 2005. It was about 90-degrees and crowded over there, but it was a blast to watch. I posted photos on Flickr here. And I put up a few movies here, here, here, and here.

It definitely felt surreal to not only have such a hot day in San Francisco, but to also watch some awesome freestyle skiers and snowboarders at the same time. I mean, some of these guys were GOOD. Early in the day, many of the guys were barely making the landing, and some were even hitting the foam blocks between the jump and the landing. We kept thinking that maybe they put them too far apart - the guys just couldn’t get enough speed. But then Jonny Moseley did a run and touched down way down the landing ramp. He did some pretty crazy shit on the way, too. Later, once everybody was warmed up, and they got comfortable enough with the jump, most everybody was making the landing and doing some crazy tricks.

We started at the top - where participants were launching out the side of a cable car! Then we walked halfway down and caught a few photos right at the jump. And then later stopped by a friend’s flat and watched from his roof. Very cool.

Even though the promoters had a difficult time getting permits and such for this event, it was a fun day and I hope they do it again!
