I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere, but the new version of iTunes displays an iTunes Music Store area *all*the*time. Larger images here and here. When I’m in my Library, it seems to display links to whatever some of the latest additions are at the store. However, it shows even when I’m in a custom playlist - and it shows music that’s appropriate to whatever is in the list. For example, I was just listening to music by Every Move A Picture, and it showed links to their album.
I did a quick check through the preferences, and I didn’t see a way to turn it off. In some ways, I’m OK with having suggestions about music I might like based on whatever I’m currently listening to. However, I object to the blatant, in-your-face, buy-this-music tactics.
What do you think about this addition to iTunes?
UPDATE: Sooo, um, yeah, in my quickness to post, I didn’t notice the button on the right side - identical to the album art button - the will collapse this section.
UPDATE 2:And now that I’m seeing other posts about this on the web, I must say I was never really panicked about Apple monitoring my every move and “spying” on me. I think Frasier Speirs says it best.
try clicking the button that looks like the artwork toggle at the lower right button bar.
Yea - bit of marketing bait to lure people to shop in the store - can’t fault us as thats where we make our money.. But you can collapse it the same way you can collapse the album art on the left … 4th button from the right on the bottom of the window..
Pete, actually Apple makes pennies on the dollar for each iTune sold. The lion’s share of their profits are from hardware sales.
You can also collapse it from the menu bar. “Edit”->”Hide MiniStore”.
I just got my 2000t and all of my songs are skipping in iTunes, and I cant figure out why. If someone could help me out and tell me how to fix this I would really appreciate it because its driving me crazy. Thanks for the replys.
