Ahhhhh, My Eyes!!

For the past month or so, I’ve had an item in my kGTD list to get some more content up on this site. Well, to procrastinate on really spending some time on it, I whipped up a few pages using iWeb. They’re not pretty, but at least people landing at blakeseely.com will know there’s something here besides this blog.

Especially important, I think, was to get a Downloads page up so people could grab the latest version of any code or applications I’ve posted. I figured this was a problem when I posted the latest version of BSJSONAdditions (Version 1.1) and the downloads of version 1.0 spiked!

And heck, I figured I might as well throw in some garish gradients and colors as well :)

After mocking up these couple pages, I think I can confirm what I already knew: Although iWeb is a strong, well-designed app, it’s strength and good design are very focused on quickly getting one, stylish, template-based site up. (Ideally, on .Mac). If you want some of your pages to go to one site, and some to a different site, you’ll have to upload manually after publishing to a folder. (What Apple calls “sites” are really just subdirectories on a single site). Also, once you hit that publish button, plan to wait becase iWeb doesn’t provide a way to cancel once you’ve started.

Before I try to build some real content on the site, I might try whipping up something in Sandvox and see how it compares to iWeb. (I think it will more closely match what I’m trying to do and provide quite a bit more flexibility.)
